Band Camp is less than two weeks away and there is TONS of stuff to go over for you to be ready. If you’re a returning marcher then you know all about what’s ahead, but our new marchers may have only heard about the hardest two weeks of the season, and you have no idea what to expect. Let’s go ahead and set everyone’s minds at ease…
Hopefully all of your family vacations and trips are out of the way because band camp is MANDATORY for all of our marchers! These two weeks are the starting point for what will make you an award winning band this season. You will learn drill (the steps for your show), music, and make friendships that will last a lifetime! Band camp is Monday through Friday from 12pm-9pm (yes, you read that right, and remember to be there a half hour early) for two weeks beginning July 23rd through August 3rd. If for any reason you can not make a practice, you must contact your section leader and Mr Dasher as soon as possible. Your absence can throw everyone off so attendance is so important!
What To Bring
Don’t forget to dress appropriately for practice
- White shirt
- Percussion: red shorts
- Band (winds): blue shorts
- Guard: black shorts
No jeans or jean shorts!
No sandals, open toed shoes, or flip flops.
You’re going to need to pack a bag, here are some band camp MUST HAVES to ensure your survival 😉
- Your instrument
- 1″ binder with sheet protectors
- Dot book (<–Walgreens has them)
- Bug Spray
- Cool Towel
- Deodorant / antiperspirant (avoid chafing!)
- Extra socks (in case of rain)
- Extra t-shirt (in case of rain/sweat)
- Pens / pencils
- Extra reeds, valve oil, cork grease, etc
- inhalers (if necessary)
- One gallon water jug (bring filled with ice and water daily)
Hydration is the MOST important thing you need to be working on right now! Band camp is still two weeks away but you need to start drinking water now. Get in the habit otherwise your first few days are going to be miserable and nauseating. You need to bring a pre-filled, one gallon water jug every day of camp. Do not depend on the band room ice machine because it’s not always working, and even if it is, it’s small and can not accommodate 80+ water coolers. So let’s go ahead and just agree to have those filled at home before you show up to practice.
Also, be sure to eat before practice. Yes, we have a dinner break at 4pm, but you’ll want some fuel in the tank to get you through until then. Eat sensibly though, nothing too heavy, and experience has taught us that dairy doesn’t usually sit very well in the stomach in this heat.
Arrival Time: 11:30am
Dinner break: 4:00pm
On the field: 5:00pm
Camp ends: 9:00pm
Pick up: 9:00pm (be prepared that students may not come off the field exactly at 9, but you need to be there in case they do)
We have a pre-planned dinner menu that everyone can sign up for for an additional fee, or you can bring your own lunch from home. Please fill out the following MENU and return with payment the practice before band camp (July 17) so we can place our order for the first day. Also, we are awaiting updated pricing from vendors on our menu items for this year. Please be prepared for a possible slight price increase.
Note: Dinners must be paid in cash as we will need to pay our vendors upon delivery.
Note 2: Even if you do bring your own food from home, please turn in a menu indicating that you are doing so.

Also available: chips for an additional $0.50 and drinks for an additional $1.00
Pot Luck dishes should be at the school no later than 3:30pm. Drop off will be in the front of the school either infront of or inside the cafeteria.
Please note that we need parent volunteers during dinner to help serve food, ESPECIALLY on pot luck day. There is no official sign up. If you would like to help but are worried there may already be too many people there, don’t be. We can ALWAYS use more hands!
All paperwork is due by the start of band camp. The most important form is the Medical Release form. We need this form on file in case of an emergency. If something happens to your child on the field, we need to be able to get in touch with you as soon as possible, and in some cases, before medical treatment can be administered. This form must also be must be notarized. If you need a notary one will be available again at the mandatory parent meeting on Tues, July 24th. Otherwise, your bank usually offers notary services, and Amscot also offers them for a fee.
Note: I was informed this evening that there are two new forms that will be required for any child in need of medications or with health concerns. Those will be available on the web site as soon as possible.
So yes, dinner fees are due, but there are a few other fees we’re going to need before the start of camp so let’s just jump into it. The band camp fee of $30.00 is due before the first day of camp. Also, the band fee of $150.00 is due at the start of camp.
Online payments are now available! Click the link HERE, create your account, and stop worrying about whether or not you have the cash on hand or if your check has cleared. Online payments just make like easier and we are all for that!
So there you have it, everything you need to know to survive the next couple weeks. Yes it’s hot and miserable, and you’ll spend a lot of time going over the same steps repeatedly, but this band doesn’t make it to finals year after year by taking it easy. They work hard and it shows! Get ready to be a part of something amazing!
